Letters to the Editor ? Paul Krugman

The following letters are in response to our interview with Paul Krugman, which appeared two weeks ago, and to the letters to the Editor which were published last week.

Dear Editor,

While Paul Krugman can test the patience of a fiscally conservative liberal like me, he sends hardcore conservatives into absolute fits.

Yet, since you said all letters in response to the Krugman interviews were negative, I wanted to post at least one positive opinion.

The usual conservative response to government programs is, "What has big government spending ever done to revive an economy?”  Well, for starters I cite the securing of a free world (and the economic benefits after victory) when the Greatest Generation, with a little help from "big government," defeated Japan and Nazi Germany.

It’s funny how conservatives hate government spending until it hits their self-interest or pocket book.  Nobody seems to complain about our "socialist" Army, Navy, and Air Force.  Every conservative hates big government until it comes to receiving their Social Security check or Medicare benefits. Don't even get me going about corporate welfare.

If you want to see how the stimulus package is working, go check with "Joe the Plumber" who just turned in his old clunker for $4,500 to buy a new vehicle.  Ask the local Ford dealer, probably a Republican, what he thinks about the stimulus program.

Dear Editor,

People who think like Paul Krugman are simply going to spend us into oblivion.  I would question anything he puts forth.

Dear Editor,

Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman, like Nobel Laureate Jimmy Carter, is often totally committed to an agenda that prevents sentient thought. Unfortunately, Krugman, Carter and others like them contaminate the views of others with drivel.
