Dear Friends,
I am writing to ask for your support for my bicycle ride as part of the Pan Mass Challenge. This year’s ride is August 3 and 4, and it will take me 170 miles from Wellesley to Provincetown. Contributions go toward cancer research and care provided through the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. The Jimmy Fund was established in 1948, and supports research that improves the chances of survival for children and adults with cancer around the world.
The Pan Mass Challenge is the largest single fundraising event for the Jimmy Fund, generating nearly half of the Jimmy Fund’s revenue last year. The Pan Mass Challenge has contributed more than $375 million since the inception of the ride in 1980. Since 2007, 100% of the funds raised by riders in the Pan Mass go to the Jimmy Fund. This year’s goal is to raise $38 million and I am honored to be a small part of making this possible and so grateful for your annual support.
This is my thirteenth year of participation in the Pan Mass. As I have done each year in the past, I am dedicating my ride to an individual. As many of you know, my Dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November of last year. Through the care he has received at Dana Farber, he continues to be able to enjoy time with his family. He and my Mom have moved to Wellesley and visit my Dad’s oncologist, Dr. Robert Mayer, regularly. Dr. Mayer has been
instrumental in helping my Dad regain strength so that we can spend this time with him.
The money that I raise this year will go directly to Dr. Mayer’s fund to support research into cures and treatments for pancreatic cancer and related diseases.
Please join me in wishing my Dad, those individuals to whom I have dedicated prior rides and everyone in similar circumstances continued success and good health. I also ride in memory of Cindy Johnson (2006 dedicatee), Kiyoko Okanishi of Japan (2010 dedicatee) and the many other brave individuals who are no longer with us.
